Bargaining update 06.24.2026 | Pre-bargaining session ground rules

Hello House Officers,

Primary focus today was on ground rules for bargaining, which are not required but help set tone for bargaining:

• Disagreements:
  • Term of contract: ending contract on January 1st, 2027
    • If this happens, our existing contract would expire but our pay, and benefits will remain as status quo
• OHSU arguments:
  • Contract expires July 1st, 2027
  • Do not want to implement financials before the ‘27-’28 academic year - argues that economics decisions should be delayed until later dates and not included in the Ground Rules
• Our union's position:
  • Signals an intention to settle contract in time for residents who require visas to have their financial information
  • Allows more time to enjoy non-economic benefits of the upcoming contract, including for outgoing residents!
  • Allows incoming medical students to factor in a certified contract to their rank lists in February
•  Alignment by both parties:
  • Observers welcome! HOU members may attend as silent observers virtually or in person.
  • General procedures and decorum. 

We still have not reached a final agreement on ground rules, and will propose provisions in the current contract that we want to expire by January 1, 2027 to make way for the next contract.More details below.

The next bargaining session is going to be July 8th from 6:30 PM - 9 PM!
