We’re pleased to announce that we’ve reached an agreement with OHSU regarding a pay increase for the 2023-2024 academic year. We did not get everything we wanted, but we believe this agreement represents a significant improvement over management’s original offer of a 5% increase and nothing else
The final agreement is for a 7% increase, plus a $300 lump sum bonus to be paid out in August of 2023, and an agreement to re-open the full contract in July of this year. This means we will soon have an opportunity to discuss increases to the housing stipend and other issues that were not on the table in these limited negotiations. This agreement amounts to a total average increase of about $4,670 for each member next year, $1,570 more than OHSU originally offered.
Don’t get us wrong–we hoped for more, and we fought for more. Under the current conditions though, we don’t believe we left anything on the table. We still believe that to truly keep pace with the cost of living in Portland, OHSU needs to do better. At the same time, this also represents the largest raise we’ve ever received, with an opportunity to push for more gains, financial and otherwise, in just a few months.
To make the most of our bargaining this summer, we’ll need to show OHSU a united front. Be on the lookout for opportunities to get involved! If you aren't currently the member, the easiest way to show your support is to join today. It only takes about 30 seconds, and the wage increase we just negotiated is worth more than five times the cost of a year’s dues.
